Fetching the video…

Sometimes you don’t need the picture at all. A sermon, a podcast recorded on Facebook Live, a lecture, an interview, a song from a Reel – you just want to listen. The FBDown Facebook to MP3 converter pulls the audio out of a public Facebook video and saves it as a file you can play anywhere, without keeping a heavy video on your phone.

How to convert Facebook video to MP3

Open the video, Reel or live replay on Facebook and tap Share → Copy link. On a desktop, copy the link from the address bar. Any public video link works: facebook.com/watch, fb.watch, /reel/, /videos/ or /share/v/.

2. Paste it and press Download

Paste the link into the box at the top of this page and press Download. FBDown fetches the video details and the available streams.

3. Tap MP3

On this page the MP3 button is listed first. Tap it and the audio is saved to your device. If you change your mind and want the video too, the HD and SD buttons are right below.

Why save audio instead of video

Audio files are a fraction of the size. A one-hour Facebook Live in HD can be 600 MB to 1 GB; the same talk as audio is around 50–60 MB. That’s a big difference on a phone with little storage or a limited data plan.

Content HD video (approx.) Audio only (approx.)
3-minute song from a Reel 25–40 MB 3 MB
20-minute lecture 200–300 MB 19 MB
1-hour live stream 600 MB–1 GB 57 MB

Audio also plays with the screen off, works in any music app, and can be loaded into a podcast player, a car stereo or a smartwatch.

Audio quality, honestly

Facebook stores the sound of most videos as AAC at roughly 128 kbps. That’s good quality for speech and fine for most music. FBDown keeps that track as it is, so nothing is lost on our side.

Some converters advertise “320 kbps MP3” from Facebook. They take the same 128 kbps source and re-encode it at a higher number. The file gets bigger; the sound doesn’t get better. We’d rather tell you that than sell you a label.

If the original upload had poor sound – a phone recording in a noisy hall, for example – the extracted audio will sound the same.

Where it’s useful

  • Sermons and religious talks streamed by mosques, churches and temples on Facebook Live.
  • Lectures and classes from teachers who publish on public pages.
  • Podcasts and interviews recorded as Facebook videos.
  • Your own music, if you’re an artist who premiered a track on Facebook and wants the file back.
  • Language practice – listen to native speakers again and again without the video.

Keep in mind that most commercial songs in Reels are licensed to Facebook, not to you. Converting them for personal listening is one thing; uploading them, using them in your own videos or selling them can bring copyright claims.

Playing the file on your device

Android: The audio goes to Downloads and shows in music apps that scan your storage, or open it in VLC.

iPhone: Safari saves it to the Files app. Tap it to play, or use Share to send it to another app. To keep it in a playlist, add it through the Music app on a computer.

Windows and Mac: It plays in any media player and imports into Audacity, GarageBand or other editors if you want to trim it.

Troubleshooting

The MP3 button doesn’t appear. A few videos don’t have a separate audio track listed. Download the SD video and convert it locally, or try again with the direct video link.

The audio is silent. Facebook sometimes mutes copyrighted music in certain countries. If you hear nothing on Facebook, there’s nothing to extract either.

The file opens in the browser instead of saving. Right-click (or long-press) the MP3 button and choose Download linked file.

“Private video.” Only public videos can be converted. Ask the owner to share the file directly.

Other FBDown tools

For the full video in HD, use the Facebook video downloader. Short vertical videos are easier with the Facebook Reels downloader, and 24-hour Stories with the Facebook Story downloader. Instagram Reels and posts have their own Instagram video downloader, which also offers audio.

FAQ

FAQ

How do I convert a Facebook video to MP3?

Copy the video's link, paste it into FBDown, press Download and tap the MP3 button. The audio is saved as a separate file.

What bitrate is the MP3?

FBDown keeps the audio track Facebook delivers – usually AAC around 128 kbps – and saves it in a format every phone and player can open. Converting to a higher bitrate wouldn't add real quality.

Can I get the song from a Facebook Reel?

Yes, paste the Reel link and choose MP3. Note that licensed music may be muted in some regions, and then there's no audio to extract.

Does it work for long videos and live streams?

Yes. Ended live streams and long talks work too; longer videos just take a few more seconds to prepare.

Can I convert private videos to MP3?

No. Only public Facebook videos can be read.

Is the Facebook to MP3 converter free?

Yes, it's free with no account and no registration.
